Empowering our employees to make full use of their talents and skills at work is vital to their future, WOZIL Refinery and Chemical Company’s future – and the future of South Africa.
The way we manage our people’s personal and professional development is embedded into the way we run our organisation. Each year, every employee undergoes a personal performance review. Part of this process involves identifying people’s training needs then structuring an individual development plan on their behalf.
Our comprehensive employee development programme benefits people at every level of our business and aligns closely with our commitment to the principles of
Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (B-BBEE). Among numerous other options, this programme offers:
• Study assistance covering the cost of taking external courses.
Courses must relate directly to an employee's job and options range from MBAs and post-graduate degrees to technical and vocational qualifications
• Secondments with other WOZIL Refinery and Chemical Company departments or with our Government partners such as the Department of Energy and Central Energy Fund
• International training assignments that enable our professionals to expand their personal and professional horizons at industry events, conference and courses worldwide
• Short-courses focusing on functional, technical and leadership skills
In addition, we are set to launch a Management Development Programme that will identify and nurture individuals with the management and leadership skills to take our business forward. Other learning and development initiatives in the pipeline include our Talent Evolution Project. This will support South Africa’s National Skills Development Strategy (NSDS3) by addressing the urgent need to improve the way our country develops its national skills base and promotes sustainable employment.
Meanwhile, we continue to work alongside a mix of external partners on initiatives designed to improve qualifications, support career progression, enhance productivity and give people greater mobility. Among other initiatives, our work in this area involves participating in the SAPIA/Wits Leadership in Oil and Energy programme aimed at developing leadership skills among women.
